Ok! So I think next week will be my last week of introducing all my new friends! It will be mostly climbing buddies that I share with Husky. I do have some drawings of my previous friends from Milwaukee, that I think still deserve their own post, as well as several overseas friends that I still interact with often that deserve one too. So it's a work in progress. :P
Aside from that, this past weekend Husky and I went skiing. It was good, aside from the massive wipe out and sunburn I got. Sadly my fall was not the infamous last run of the day. It was the first, and it was bad enough that I blacked out for probably only a few seconds. I still skied down the mountain and made my way to Ski Patrol. For the most part I was in good shape and answered all the paramedics questions. They said I was lucky and could probably just keep a close eye on it. We opted for that over the expensive taxi ride. :P I did have a helmet, I was just unlucky in that when I fell forward my pole went in-between where my helmet and goggles meet, slamming into my temple. So now I look like I got in some really epic bar fight, as the bruise extends from the side of my eye, over my eyelid, and up around my eyebrow.
To top it off, since I chose to ski for the rest of the day on easier runs, it was nice and warm which prompted me to remove my face mask...but not put sunscreen on. So my face looks absolutely absurd.
Enough about my foolishness! On to my friends, part 3!
The gals below are all in my baking circle. Together we make up the only legal home bakers in our town (I am missing one). There's quite a few people who try to do it without a license and it's very much against CA law to sell any kind of food from your home without one. So we all promote each other for jumping through the legal hoops to do things the right way. We often will recommend one another when we can't take an order, which helps keep clientele from going to the illegal ones.
NP doesn't really do cakes, but she does do a lot with pastries and cookies. She too makes cinnamon rolls that would give you diabetes by just looking at them. She and MP both attend the farmer's market. I would, but I'm so booked and busy I generally don't have time to prep for it. Maybe one day I can join them...
MP is closer to my age and just like me does all baked goods, confections, desserts, and bread. While I think my strengths probably lie at the cake and pastry side of things I think her strengths lie at the confections and bread side of things. If I ever get my shop up and running in town I'm definitely going to ask her to come do candy and bread for me. :) It's not that I think my bread is inferior, but it is time consuming and she seems to have a process down with cranking it out quickly.
DM is probably the one who's been doing the baking in town the longest. She's also the one who really helped me, and in turn everyone else, with getting through the licensing process. Her knowledge is extremely vast and her skill is impressive. I often strive to be like her. I marker her as "retired" only because she is currently taking time off from new orders to focus more on her family. Unlike MP, myself, and maybe NP, she views the baking as a favorite hobby rather than a potential profession. I honestly hope she never stops, just cause it would be a huge loss to the baking community to lose such talent. As far as I know, she only does cakes or cookies.
DG, while not a baker still makes food from home and thus is in our group. She does canning, and when I'm able I tend to get all of my fruit preserves either from her or I get advice from her on how to do it myself. She's an excellent ally to have, since most of us like keeping our ingredients local and fresh.
CC is a friend I met while I was still the Education Coordinator at Joann's. He has also moved on and opened his own computer repair business. He's a bit all over the place, but loves what he does and has a ton of ambition. He reminds me of myself at times, so I think that's why we get along so well. His business cat, Skully, is also a favorite to see when I visit. Him and his crew were the guys who built my massive gaming rig, Bowser. I'll have to post about that later, but it was a process that took about a month and change. I am now indebted to him with my soul, practically, so I am often bringing them all kinds of baked goodies (of which I think I'm overdue on). They are also a willing group to try new recipes on, so I certainly never complain.
I sadly forgot to draw the third one from the computer shop, that I know. So he'll have to come later. Below is DR. He used to be at the shop, helping with phone repair. I found out recently that he's moved on, but we remain in contact and he likes to occasionally order from the bakery.
These two I met last year at my favorite convention Blizzcon! They're both super awesome and a total blast to hang out with. I befriended SA when I offered to drive her home from the after party, and she introduces me to AY. As I understand it, they both used to work together as Blizzard, but while SA has moved on to other ventures AY is still an employee there.
Sadly, I was unable to get a ticket to this year's Blizzcon so I won't be able to see them at all. :( I hope they both have extra fun for me.
JE is a friend through CYf and CYm. He has a super cool motorcycle that I have a feeling I'll be trading baked goods in exchange for rides on. Like CYm, he's into Pokémon Go, so when I can I like to go out hunting with them.
SA has yet to permanently move out here with all of us, but she currently dates JE. She's incredibly nice and really smart. She and CYf are often with the guys during Pokémon hunts, so the group as a whole is a lot of fun to be around, as I think each personality brings something different to the group dynamics.
TM and BM were the second official clients I ever got, here in town. They have since become good friends, whom I really enjoy hanging out with when our schedules align. They've gotten me into MMA a bit, so we'll often be out on fight nights at the local pub.
Sadly Scoot has moved out of town, and RL will probably eventually follow, due to them both being military wives. They were part of a local roller derby group that I occasionally skated with. It was hard finding time, with my current busy schedule but I always tried my best regardless.
AK is my voice teacher. I also had the pleasure of doing her wedding cake. She and her husband are so stinking adorable, and I met them while doing on of my first jobs as a barista. Her husband would often meet up with her for their lunch at the coffee shop. He always got water with ice and she always got tea. :3 She likes my baritone singing voice and is excited to work it further. Maybe I'll be able to muster some courage and perform a song one day. :)
I met TD through my first friends, EE and JE. He's a family friend of JE and as a result was also one of my first friends here in town. Because he DJ's many of the same types of events that I do work for we are often running into each other. His day job is the same as mine, and funny enough we also applied during the same hiring event and were interviewed at the same time. Everyone in town practically knows him, as he's been around for some time, and everyone agrees that he's always incredibly nice to each person he meets.
I met SM through my time at Joann's and became friends after. She has moved on as well, but I still enjoy seeing her and her husband KM occasionally. They're a cute couple and are always super nice to me.
MW works in a similar area to Husky and is also a DJ in his second job. He often misses his family in Colorado, but I'm glad he's around cause he's a cool guy.
SW is a friend through MF. I met her during MF's New Year's party. She has a habit of always messaging me past my bedtime hours, but otherwise is a really nice person.
I don't hang out with XM too much, but she's a friend from Joann's that I liked a lot because her attitude is always so sassy. I enjoy seeing her every time I have to pop in for supplies.
